In his latest book, Behind the Scenes: Covering the JFK Assassination, Darwin Payne tells the story of his experience as a young Dallas Times Herald reporter who sprinted from his newspaper desk to Dealey Plaza minutes after shots were fired at President John F. Kennedy. Thus began his close involvement in covering one shocking event after another on that history-making weekend.
In conversation with Paul Santa Cruz, archivist at the George W. Bush Presidential Library, Payne will share his memories of this significant moment in history and answer audience questions.
Co-sponsored by DeGolyer Library, Friends of SMU Libraries, William P. Clements Center for Southwest Studies, Center for Presidential History, Maguire Center for Ethics and SMU's Division of Journalism.
